FESTIVAL FEVER

Big name rock bands, dance tents until the early hours, over 8000 people on-site, entertainment, sound stages, and camping on weekend long festival is normally the sort of thing one expects of Glastonbury and Reading, but 2012 sees the first of these events ever to be held at Portmeirion.

On September 14-16th 2012 "Festival Number Six"takes place in the village, with 3 stages being erected (one in front of the Castell, one on the pool, one in the centre of the village).

Bands so far confirmed make a very impressive line-up, with New Order, Primal Scream, and Spiritualized headlining the main stage and the highly-regarded DJ Scruff the pick of the DJ line-up. There will also be the usual mix of other types of entertainment including poetry, readings, and more.

Initial excitement at this news has been dampened, however, by concerns raised by fans of Portmeirion on Facebook, local residents and staff, and elsewhere with regards to the treatment the buildings, statues, lawns, and gardens will receive from the 8000 festival-goers, who will have unlimited availability of alcohol available to them. One such Facebook user stated "the place will get trashed" whilst another stated "this is outrageous and will cost more in clearing up and mending damages than what Portmeirion will have taken in".

With camping also included (outside of the village itself, of course) tickets start at a high-end £99, with "early bird" tickets already sold out. Click HERE to visit the official Festival Number 6 website.

With thanks to Catherine Frumerman and Nick Jay for this new item.
