ALEXIS KANNER - REST IN PEACE

Alexis Kanner, known and admired by all fans of The Prisoner for his portrayals of 'The Kid' in "Living In Harmony" and 'Number 48' in "Fall Out" was found dead at his London home on Saturday 13th December 2003.

A friend of Alexis', David Blake explains: "His longtime girlfriend Elizabeth tells me that she had called from Paris and became alarmed when he did not respond. She arranged for the police to investigate and they were the ones to find him. He died of immediate heart failure without pain". Alexis' American ex-wife Jane arranged for the body to be flown to Israel where he was buried, as he had requested.

Ann Pearce, a friend of Alexis' for seven years, said "he was a very kind and generous man. Very supportive, and a good friend". She added, "I saw Alexis only three weeks ago for dinner and he seemed in fine form. This has come as a great shock for me and for everyone".

A short tribute to the actor appeared on Radio 5 Live's "Brief Lives" on Sunday 12th January. The programme featured an interview with Roger Langley (erroneously credited as Anthony Heywood, the journalist who wrote Kanner's obituary for The Independent).

Alexis proved to be a popular guest at conventions in Portmeirion, where he appeared as a last minute surprise to the delight of fans in 1996 and returned this year in March 2003. The actor was sometimes coy about his age, but several sources point to the date of his birth as being May 2nd 1942.

The Unmutual website sends its condolences to his family, friends, and many fans.
