PORTMEIRION'S 80TH ON TV

As mentioned further down this news page, Portmeirion celebrated its 80th birthday on Monday April 3rd. To cover the event, not one, but two, TV channels reported live from the hotel during the evening.

S4C's flagship show "Wedi 7", presented by the ever-popular Angharad Mair, spent a third of its airtime reporting from Portmeirion, with a mixture of pre-recorded footage and live reporting from the main hotel building. Both Robin Llywelyn (left), grandson of Sir Clough and Portmeirion's Managing Director ("It has been an honour to live and work here for 20 years"), and Susan Williams-Ellis, Sir Clough's daughter and guest of honour at the celebrations ("I wish my father could see it now, as everyone is taking such care to keep it as he wanted it"), were interviewed, as was Lord Ellis Thomas.

The piece also included some wonderful aerial footage of Portmeirion. BBC Wales also conducted live interviews with Robin Llywelyn and Susan Williams-Ellis as part of the local news programme "Wales Today", earlier that evening.

Wedi 7 is on S4C nightly at 7.00pm on SKY digital 135 (104 in Wales - click HERE for how to get English subtitles). Click HERE to visit the "Wedi 7" website and watch streaming of recent editions of the show.

With thanks to Angharad Mair of "Wedi 7" for permission to use the above images, and to Cathy Frumerman for bringing this screening to our attention.
