For several years, it has been heavily rumoured that Portmeirion are considering building the 'Lion Tower', designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis but never built, as part of its forthcoming centenary celebrations in 2026.

The tower was originally designed to sit between Telford's Tower and Unicorn cottages in the village, but in the end Sir Clough decided against it.

After the rumours quietened in recent years, and with no plans submitted for such a structure, according to the BBC show 'Antiques Road Trip' (screened 7th December 2020) the idea may be going ahead after all! The show is available to view on BBC's iPlayer.
