Sunday 30th July 2023
The London Prisoner Group Summer Location Picnic
Dave Lally is organising a summer picnic visit to Beachy Head Lighthouse (seen in 'Many Happy Returns' and 'The Girl Who Was Death').
Dave writes:
We meet outside Burger King (London Victoria Main Line Rail Station). There we will get a Group Rail return ticket (to/from Eastbourne). Destination - Beachy Head, Sussex : location in Priz eps: "Girl" and "Returns" (famous lighthouse).
The normal day return (no concessions) is currently £ 39.90. Bring any rail cards with you (but do NOT buy any London<->Eastbourne tickets in advance). We may be able to get a Gp discount (up to 50%) -whereas most railcards only give 1/3rd off.
Also bring any ENGLAND only (NOT anywhere else) Concessionary Bus Passes (incl the London Freedom Pass) with you. One may be able to use those on the connecting bus at Eastbourne.
Bring also picnic food, a hat (remember the sun!), a blanket to sit on, drinks (water definitely but any alcohol is OK), plus a refuse bag. Plus binoculars etc - great views!
We rendevous from 1015-1030, as at above (and catch the next direct Southern train to Eastbourne: dep 1054, arr there : 1217 (&)).
In Eastbourne we catch (from Bus Stop G1: in nearby Gildredge Rd), the Brighton+Hove bus (13X to Brighton), usually XX 35) via Beachy Head, arr there XX 48. We catch the last return bus back to Eastbourne Station from Beachy Head at 1856. Then we either eat in Eastbourne or go back to Big Smoke London immediately.
